Dietwise provides some great opportunities for people of all ages to volunteer their time, skills and experience with us. We value dedicated volunteers – they are integral to the philosophy of the company and everything Dietwise does. Volunteering can be a great way to gain the necessary experience for jobs or college/university placements, and Dietwise works in a wide variety of settings and circumstances, and we always try to match interest with opportunities!
Some of our roles work directly with communities and groups, and others are office or home-based support roles.
These roles involve working directly with clients, groups and businesses, along side Dawn, helping to deliver activities, events, services and support. You will need to have a background (DBS) check undertaken.
These roles do not require direct engagement with clients and businesses, but provide much needed support to projects, events and programmes in a variety of areas such as: social media, administration, development of resources, blogging, bookkeeping, networking, marketing, photography, videography, graphic design, web design, event promotion and fundraising.
Do I need any previous experience?
You do not need previous experience in nutrition or the diet industry for our direct roles – all we ask is that you have a genuine enthusiasm for nutrition and health. Diertwise will provide any appropriate professional training and the know-how to successfully work in the company. In direct roles, you are likely to be supported at all times by Dawn, the Managing director. However, if you would like to deliver sessions independently, Dietwise would expect previous experience as well as a suitable qualification in Nutrition or Dietetics
Hopefully you will have transferable skills to successfully run a few of our support roles. For example, we would expect a social media volunteer or communications assistant to have excellent proof-reading and written language skills, but not to have necessarily worked in a communications role previously.
There are many reasons for volunteering with Dietwise including:
- Making a positive difference to the lives of local people and communities.
- Meeting new people and being part of a community.
- Learning new skills and develop existing ones.
- Having fun!
- Demonstrating a commitment to a cause (e.g. nutrition and diet for health and well being).
- A springboard to a career and earning academic credit.
- Providing people with opportunities to get fitter and healthier.
How much time would I need to commit?
The amount of time you would be required to commit depends on the type of role and the amount of time you are willing and able to give.
